Giuliana Rancic considers adoption, surrogacy

The past six months have been particularly challenging ones for reality stars Giuliana and Bill Rancic. In October, Giuliana revealed to TODAY that the couple was putting their plans to start a family on hold after a mammogram showed she was in the early stages of breast cancer. Since then, Giulianna's undergone a double mastectomy, and along with Bill, she now looks forward to getting back to normal -- a new normal.

Soon fans of the couple will have a chance to see just what that means when season five of their show "Giuliana & Bill" returns to the Style network. But there's no need to wait for some of the details: On Monday, the Rancics stopped by TODAY to share the where they are now and what they hope the future holds.

"(This experience) brought us so much closer together," Giuliana said. "It's actually helped us find the humor in everything, because when you go through something this tough, you have to, at some point, laugh and get back to your normal life. And that's Bill helped me do.... It's really reinvigorated our relationship in many ways, and we're closer than ever -- that's for sure."

That's a sentiment shared by Bill, who insists that Giuliana's diagnosis was one of those things that "makes the little things not seem so important."

But what about the not-so-little things, such as their desire to have a baby? That's still the plan for the couple, but maybe not quite the way they originally imagined it.

"We are definitely having to explore other options," Giuliana explained. "We absolutely want a child. As far as getting pregnant myself, with the medication I'm starting ... it's probably not going to happen any time soon. But we're definitely looking at other options.... Possibly adoption, surrogacy -- listen, at the end of the day, whether you have a baby naturally, adoption, surrogacy -- it's your baby. You're going to love that baby and that's all that matters."

On that front, Giuliana hopes to have "some good news soon."

Season five of "Giuliana & Bill" premieres Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET on the Style network.
